Make Living Shorelines Happen

If you love our watershed, join us in protecting it by volunteering to help create living shorelines.

Volunteer Opportunities

Marsh Stewards Program

The first couple of years after a living shoreline is installed are critical for its health and survival. Our Marsh Stewards program trains volunteers to assist homeowners with their living shorelines. Volunteers will be trained in assessing a living shoreline, identifying invasive species, and replacing lost vegetation. The Marsh Stewards will also have the opportunity to attend Living Shoreline plantings and Living Shoreline Collaborative meetings. Learn more at the link below. Contact Lucy Deignan for more information at [email protected].

Chesapeake Bay Foundation

Planting native trees and shrubs along the banks of waterways is one of the most effective ways to keep polluted runoff out of streams. Creating living shorelines with native wetland plants and grasses helps restore habitat for wildlife, prevent erosion, capture sediment, and filter pollution. Check our calendar for current opportunities.
